How Dancesport Nation Was Founded
DanceSport Nation was born from a love of dance by both Mother and Daughter. Lana and Lizzie Fuchs, both dancesport dancers and competitors, recognized a need to create a program for at-risk youth to participate in dancesport.
It all started during Lizzie’s teenage years. Like many teens, Lizzie became self-conscious due to being overweight and was bullied, causing problems with self image. Lizzie discovered dance and initially tried hip hop classes.
Shortly before her 18th birthday in preparation for her birthday party, she attended classes at VZ Dance studios to learn Hindu dancing for her themed party.
Her instructor suggested she start dancesport, and her dancing began to change her entire outlook on life. She developed better eating habits to go along with her new active lifestyle, and she lost 48 pounds in one year. Her new lease on life spilled over into all areas of her life including school and relationships.
Lizzie suggested her mom, Lana, a ballet dancer from the age of 5, join in and dance with her. Lana started dancesport March 11, 2016, with a just a few lessons per week. Lana and Lizzie now both dance 5 to 6 hours a day, six days per week. The more they dance, the happier they become.
Seeing the change dancesport has made in their lives, Lana and Lizzie, partnered with VZ Dance Studios, to create DanceSport Nation as a foundation to provide at-risk youth the opportunity to experience dancesport through scholarship.
DanceSport Nation became a reality in September 2016!
